About us

The South Devon Garden Railway Group was formed with the aim of building and operating a permanent outdoor layout within the grounds of Buckfastleigh Station on the South Devon Railway.

This has now been achieved and regular meetings are held at our layout "Dartbridge" for the benefit of both ourselves and also members of the general public who are visiting the site. Meetings are held on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year unless the weather is really bad. We also run on all days of any weekend when there is a gala event on the "big railway". Saturdays are nominally maintenance days but there is normally also running taking place at the same time.

Both narrow gauge and standard gauges scales are run and both 32mm and 45mm gauge lines are available. Live steam, clockwork and battery powered locomotives are welcome. Our large membership have a wide variety of prototype railway interests and this is reflected in the models they bring along. For more information on the group and for a full calendar of running dates please see our website: www.sdgrg.org.uk

Our hosts

The South Devon Railway is the host and home for the South Devon Garden Railway Group and provides an ideal location to run steam trains. For more details on this picturesque Great Western branch line please click the image.

Our chosen charity

We have raised over £19,750 from our previous shows for our chosen charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. After our donation to the Trust any remaining proceeds go to help finance the group's layout at Buckfastleigh and to provide better facilities for the general public. Photos showing progress so far can be found on the News page of the group website:www.sdgrg.org.uk
